Machine Needle Lace Trees
Led by Helene Knott
With any landscape, rendering the trees and foliage can be both challenging and rewarding and provides an opportunity to be creative with shape and texture. This is yet another method to create a slightly textured lacy surface that is perfect for foliage and other ‘frothy’ natural elements like crashing waves or the burbling foam at the bottom of a waterfall.
The stitching is rendered on stabilized netting and the ‘lace’ is then cut free of the mesh and applied over a simple fused landscape scene. The class project is small to keep the landscape foundation preparation to a minimum and allow the maximum time to creating the machine lace. Once you learn the process, you can create larger projects. The stabilizer and netting will be provided in class.
