T-Shirt Quilt 101

This is a 2-day class to help you plan and create a t-shirt quilt; perfect for graduations, birthdays, anniversaries, and special memories.
For the first class we will be discussing how to prepare the shirts, color placement, what you can and can’t use, and how to choose your fabrics. Please bring your shirts, but DO NOT CUT THEM YET. We will begin applying the stabilizer and learning how to trim and combine shirts, if needed, for blocks.
Over the week your homework is using the class information to finish preparing your shirts, decide your pattern/fabric choices, then bring them to the next class and start sewing! This is a strong beginner friendly class, and basic sewing skills are needed.
What to bring Day 1: Lunch, shirts, large fabric scissors, featherweight or lightweight fusible interfacing (at least 5 yards-it depends on how big and many blocks you have), and a large square ruler (the quilt pattern we will be looking at needs 12.5, but I do recommend 20.5 if you are doing larger blocks), rotary cutter, long ruler, cutting mat, iron and ironing mat if available, ironing cloth.
What to bring Day 2: Lunch, shirts, all sewing supplies, fabrics for sashing, cornerstones, and border.

Supply List
- Lunch! Or a snack, we must keep up our sewing strength
- Cotton thread 50wt
- Ballpoint or Jersey needle 70-90
- 75/11 machine quilting needle
- Single hole needle plate is preferred
- Feather weight fusible interfacing (at least 5 yards)
- Large square ruler (mine is 20.5) This will depend on the size of your blocks.
- Large fabric scissors
- Ironing cloth
- Optional: small iron/iron mat for your table
- Rotary cutter
- Cutting mat
- Ruler for cutting stabilizer (ex. Your 8x24 ruler)
- Basic sewing supplies: machine, cords
- Fabrics for sashing, cornerstones, borders (amount will be discussed on day 1)

Cancellation & Refund Policy
Class, club, and event fees are nonrefundable. You must cancel 72 hours before the first session of the class, club, or event to receive store credit or apply the fee to another class, club or event. However, if the instructor or Montavilla Sewing Centers has to cancel a class, club, or event, you have the option for a store credit or full refund. Students must bring their own machines to all classes, unless otherwise noted. We request that you do not bring children or guests to the classes. Thank you!
